FIRST AID & CPR/AED TRAINING

The First Aid, CPR and AED Training course provides participants with the essential skills to perform life-saving measures and manage common medical emergencies that may occur while at sea. The training focuses on basic medical treatment, injury management, and dealing with illnesses in the absence of immediate professional medical assistance.

 

This course is aimed at all seafarers and ship personnel, regardless of rank or specific role, as having trained individuals on board is crucial for ensuring safety in case of a medical emergency. It includes theoretical instruction and practical exercises, with hands-on training using medical equipment available on ships.

Understand Basic First Aid Principles:

  • Recognize the importance of first aid and its role in saving lives.
  • Identify the responsibilities of a first aider and the legal aspects of providing first aid.

·  Learn to Assess and Prioritize Health Emergencies:

  • Perform a primary survey (ABC - Airway, Breathing, Circulation) to evaluate the severity of the situation.
  • Use the secondary survey to assess injuries and conditions in more detail.

·  Apply CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation):

  • Learn the correct techniques for performing CPR on adults, children, and infants.
  • Understand the importance of CPR and how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED).

·  Treat Common Injuries and Illnesses:

  • Address bleeding, burns, fractures, sprains, and soft tissue injuries.
  • Manage choking, head injuries, heatstroke, hypothermia, and shock.

·  Manage Medical Emergencies:

  • Recognize and respond to conditions such as heart attacks, strokes, diabetic emergencies, and allergic reactions.
  • Provide immediate care for individuals experiencing seizures or fainting.

·  Provide First Aid in Special Situations:

  • Learn how to care for infants, children, and elderly individuals in emergencies.
  • Understand how to manage first aid in remote or challenging environments.

·  Use First Aid Equipment Effectively:

  • Familiarize participants with the contents and use of a first aid kit.
  • Understand how to apply bandages, splints, and other medical tools in an emergency.

·  Develop Confidence in Emergency Response:

  • Build the confidence and decision-making skills necessary to take immediate and effective action in an emergency situation.
  • Understand the importance of remaining calm under pressure and following emergency protocols.
