SHIPBOARD SAFETY OFFICER TRAINING

The Shipboard Safety Officer (SSO) Training Course is designed to provide ship officers with the knowledge and skills required to manage safety on board ships in compliance with international maritime regulations. It focuses on the responsibilities of the Shipboard Safety Officer, including risk assessment, accident investigation, and ensuring compliance with the International Safety Management (ISM) Code and other relevant safety regulations.

 

The course follows the guidance of IMO Model Course 3.11 and supports requirements under STCW, the ISM Code, and ILO Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) 2006.

Understand the Role of the Shipboard Safety Officer

  • Legal and regulatory framework for shipboard safety

? Conduct Risk Assessments & Hazard Identification

  • Identify, evaluate, and mitigate risks in shipboard operations
  • Implement safe working practices to prevent accidents

? Investigate and Report Accidents & Incidents

  • Apply accident investigation techniques
  • Report findings to improve safety management systems (SMS)

? Promote a Safety Culture Onboard

  • Conduct effective safety training and drills
  • Enhance crew safety awareness and participation

? Implement Emergency Preparedness Measures

  • Respond effectively to fires, collisions, pollution, and medical emergencies
  • Ensure compliance with SOLAS, MARPOL, and STCW emergency procedures

? Monitor and Enforce Compliance with Safety Regulations

  • Conduct shipboard safety audits and inspections
  • Ensure compliance with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements
