FIRST RESPONDER EMERGENCY CARE (FREC) 4

The First Responder Emergency Care Level 4 (FREC 4) course is an advanced qualification designed to equip first responders with the knowledge and skills needed to provide effective pre-hospital emergency care in a wide range of medical and trauma situations. This course is ideal for individuals working in high-risk environments, such as the emergency services, security industry, events management, and offshore or remote locations.

 

Building on the foundations of Level 3 (FREC 3), this course covers advanced emergency care techniques, including airway management, patient monitoring, administering oxygen, managing trauma, and dealing with medical emergencies. Participants will gain both theoretical knowledge and hands-on practical experience, ensuring they are well-prepared to respond to emergencies confidently and competently.

 

Qualsafe Awards (QA) Level 4 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (RFQ).

 

This course is designed as the next step for those who have completed the

QA Level 3 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (RQF.)

Advanced Patient Assessment:

  • Conduct thorough patient assessments, including primary and secondary surveys.
  • Assess and manage patients with varying levels of consciousness and complex conditions.

·  Airway Management:

  • Use advanced airway techniques, such as supraglottic airway devices (e.g., i-gel), to maintain a clear airway.
  • Manage airway obstructions and ensure effective oxygenation and ventilation.

·  Trauma Management:

  • Identify and treat trauma-related injuries, such as fractures, spinal injuries, burns, and penetrating wounds.
  • Apply appropriate techniques for hemorrhage control, including tourniquet application and wound packing.

·  Medical Emergency Care:

  • Recognize and manage medical emergencies, such as cardiac arrest, strokes, seizures, and diabetic emergencies.
  • Provide care for patients with conditions like asthma, anaphylaxis, and shock.

·  Oxygen Therapy and Vital Signs Monitoring:

  • Administer oxygen therapy using various delivery systems and monitor patients' oxygen levels.
  • Measure and interpret vital signs, such as blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, and temperature.

·  Pharmacology:

  • Gain an understanding of medications commonly used in pre-hospital care, including their indications, contraindications, and side effects.
  • Safely administer medications under appropriate guidance.

·  Immobilization and Extrication:

  • Use splints, spinal boards, and cervical collars to immobilize patients with suspected spinal or musculoskeletal injuries.
  • Safely extricate patients from vehicles or confined spaces.

·  Scene Safety and Risk Management:

  • Assess the safety of the scene and manage risks to the responder, patient, and bystanders.
  • Communicate effectively with emergency services and coordinate care during incidents.

·  Handling Multiple Casualties:

  • Apply triage principles to prioritize care for multiple casualties in mass casualty incidents.
  • Use effective teamwork and decision-making skills in high-pressure situations.

·  Professional Development:

  • Develop the confidence and competence to act as a key member of an emergency response team.
  • Adhere to legal, ethical, and professional standards in pre-hospital care.
