Course Description
This course provides participants with advanced awareness of shipboard fire prevention, emergency organization, firefighting command, tactical response, equipment management and post-incident investigation.
The programme combines classroom instruction, case studies, tabletop exercises and controlled practical demonstrations to strengthen participants’ ability to support and coordinate shipboard firefighting operations.
The curriculum is developed with reference to selected subject areas of the STCW Convention, 1978, as amended, Regulation VI/3, STCW Code Section A?VI/3 and Table A?VI/3; IMO Model Course 2.03 – Advanced Training in Fire Fighting, 2023 Edition; SOLAS Chapter II?2; the FSS Code; ISM Code emergency-preparedness principles; and relevant maritime industry practices.
Course Objectives
Upon successful completion of the course, participants should be able to:
1. Explain advanced principles of fire behaviour, fire development and shipboard fire hazards.
2. Identify fire-prevention measures and interpret ship fire-control plans.
3. Explain the command structure, duties and communication arrangements of shipboard fire parties.
4. Select appropriate firefighting strategies for different shipboard fire scenarios.
5. Explain the operational principles and limitations of portable and fixed firefighting systems.
6. Demonstrate safe use of firefighting PPE, breathing apparatus and team-entry procedures during controlled exercises.
7. Conduct basic inspection and readiness checks of firefighting equipment and systems.
8. Participate in fire-incident investigation, debriefing and preparation of an incident report.
