BASIC MARITIME ENGLISH AND SHIPBOARD COMMUNICATION COURSE
Course description :
This course develops the basic English communication skills required by seafarers for routine shipboard duties, safety-related communication and emergency situations. It introduces essential maritime terminology, practical shipboard conversations and selected IMO Standard Marine Communication Phrases for deck, engine-room, port and ship-to-shore operations.
Course objectives :
Upon successful completion of the course, participants should be able to:
* Use basic English grammar and common maritime terminology correctly.
* Understand and respond to routine shipboard orders and instructions.
* Use selected IMO Standard Marine Communication Phrases.
* Communicate clearly during bridge, deck, engine-room and port operations.
* Deliver and understand basic safety and emergency messages.
* Read and complete simple shipboard forms, logbook entries and reports.
